Dunlop
Dunlop has a long heritage as a British tyre brand, with
the company for many years operating out of the famous Fort
Dunlop plant in Birmingham. Named after John Boyd Dunlop,
the inventor of the pneumatic tyre, the Dunlop brand was under
British ownership until the late 1980s when the company was
acquired by the Japanese manufacturer Sumitomo Rubber. As
a result of a more recent global alliance between Sumitomo
and Goodyear, the Dunlop brand in Europe in now managed by
Goodyear who operate in the UK as Goodyear Dunlop UK.
