ContiSportContact 5P
|
The latest ultra-high performance tyre from Continental
aimed at the top end of the market is called the ContiSportContact
5P.
Continental have claimed that the critical
development objective of the new product is to attain
exceptional levels of performance in both dry handling
and in steering response and precision. This particular
aspect is supposdely as much as 18% better than the
standard summer UHP tyres. The company further claims
that is has managed a 4% increase in it's performance
in the wet.

The steering precision and sporty handling of this tyre is
provided by the solid, sturdy nature of the central ribs,
that are attached to the tread lugs and the asymmetrical tread
ribs. These guarantee optimum, longitudinal stiffness in the
tyre and have managed to decrease movement in the tread. This
means steering forces are transmitted directly to the road.
Also, a supple macro-block design situated on
the outer shoulder and solid central ribs, help the tyre to
perfectly adapt to the road surface. This is particularly
apparent during fast cornering when the contact patch is increased,
thus allowing the driver to benefit from superb feedback when
approaching the limit .
Moving on, responsive braking in wet and dry
weather is achieved by Continental's Black Chilli Technology.
This compound technology is specially developed to involve
an innovative type of racing grade carbon black. This provides
a speedy warm-up process and high amounts of stability. The
polymers from the compound are reinforced with nanoparticles,
which give them the capability to be extremely supple. Thus
they result in more contact points with the road, giving more
grip and stability to the vehicle.
The tread design features a ‚cap' and ‚base'
compound configuration. The ‚cap', on the outside, manages
to give a great level of grip in the wet and reduced braking
distances. Meanwhile the ‚base', on the inside, decreases
rolling resistance making the drive more economical in terms
of fuel consumption for motorists. In combination they achieve
positive road grip and maintain kinetic energy, whilst at
the same time guaranteeing high safety.
