Tips for Cheaper Car Insurance

Car insurance is a legal requirement to driving on Britain's roads. Whilst this means it is a necessary expense, it does not mean that you have to pay a lot on coverage. Regardless of the car that you drive or the amount of experience you have behind the wheel, there are always things that you can do to save a few pennies on your insurance quote.

One simple thing that you can do is change the level of excess on your policy. The excess is the amount of money that you have to pay at the start of any claim that you make. If you choose to have a high excess (so you pay more on any policy) your premiums will be lower because the insurance company will be liable to pay a smaller amount of any claims. If you choose to have a low excess, accordingly, your premiums will be higher, but the insurance company will pay more of any claim that you make.

Another thing that you can do is take steps to make your car more secure. Car insurance companies work out the cost of a policy by calculating the risk to which the vehicle is exposed. If you can reduce the risk of your car being stolen or damaged, you can reduce your premiums. Accordingly, if you have off-road parking, or install a car alarm in your car, you'll save money on your insurance policy.

However, if you fit a security device to your car, make sure you contact an insurer or the ABI first. The insurance industry has a minimum standard that it expects security to devices to meet, and there's no point paying for a car alarm if it isn't going to save you money on your policy.

Another thing that you can do to try and save money is combine some of the costs of running a car. Everyone needs insurance, an M.O.T and servicing, whilst roadside assistance is usually a good idea. Whilst it might not make the insurance policy itself any cheaper, if you use a company like Kwik Fit Insurance who offer their policyholders a free M.O.T and a discount on anything from a Kwik Fit Centre you'll find that the overall costs of running your car are reduced and, therefore, it might be worth considering. Take a look at the Kwik Fit Insurance website for a cheap car insurance quote.
