New Taxi Tyre from Stapletons

Stapletons have launched a new tyre for London taxi cabs. the Austone branded tyre is available in 17 x 16c 6 ply size and features the key performance criteria for taxis, namely price-competitiveness and high mileage.

Bridgestone has launched a new trailer tyre, the R168, designed for highway and regional transport operations in the UK and mainland Europe. The new tyre has an expanded life expectancy, an excellent capacity for retreading and improved resistance to tearing, chipping and uneven wear.

The R168 features an extra layer of undertread rubber between the casing and the belt offering high resistance to impact forces, leading to fewer problems in service and an increased life expectancy. Another major development is that the fourth belt - or outer belt - has been widened by 65% compared to its predecessor with the advantage that the footprint on the road is more evenly distributed across the width of the tyre. This provides greater resistance to uneven wear and better protection against accidental damage.

In addition the tyre's tread has a width of 300mm and has an entirely new design with four grooves and three sipes. The sipes are larger to enable the tyre to better resist tearing and chipping. At the same time the tread depth has been increased to 16.8mm and the angle of the groove walls has been optimised to reduce the risk of stone retention.
